Kodak's big picture: digital images

While Eastman Kodak (EK: news, msgs) says film is still a growing market, the company said Monday it's focused on exploiting the digital photography market. "We are using our scale, scope, retail infrastructure and pre-eminent brand to provide consumers with unsurpassed digital products and online services that will build the premier online community," said Kodak president Daniel A. Carp. "During 1999 alone, U.S. film use grew 14 percent, the equivalent of adding a market the size of France to the U.S. in one year alone," he said. In a six-week period ending January 15, Kodak said it scanned approximately 40 million pictures. The company said it expects sales of photo prints to grow 50 percent by 2005, as consumers using digital cameras order hard copies of their digital photos.
