Yes I agree with your "be careful". That is why I am selling off a goodly portion (20-25%) of my portfolio over the next few months to reduce my margin to a very manageable amount. I will probably always use margin in some form or fashion. Big market downturns like what we saw in January are opportunities you don't want to pass up. You also have to believe in your stocks which means you have done the research to back up your faith in each one. Trust me.. I wouldn't use margin to buy IBM... ;-)
