At their hubs they will most likely use off the shelf gigabit routers and switches.

Does @home not use off the shelf routers and switches? I thought they could until OA.

Brings to mind another question. Is there a widely used fiber standard that has "off the shelf" equipment available that can handle many thousands of users spread over several hundred square miles? Don't go too far off topic, I'm just wondering how ready for "prime time" FTTH really is. When I read that HWP and Oracle are involved it tells me that a lot of definition work is yet to be done.

True or not?
