Thanks for the great advice. Obviously there is a wide range of comfort levels regarding risk taking (as well as a wide range of perceptions about what is risky). Many of the senior posters on this thread have come out in favor of having a cash reserve that is set aside outside of the day to day forces of market fluctuation. I truly believe that you must ?know thy self? when it comes to risk. The ?sleep at night? test is a good one.

I do remember the time (about 6 years ago) when I would look at my account statement and see the entries ?margin debt = $0.00? and ?available to borrow = $x..x.00?. At that time I thought, ?Yuk, who would want to borrow against their stock? That is like not paying off the balance on your credit card and just charging away?.
