I appreciate the ramifications of the internet on the industrial/manufacturing base. However, I think we need to make a distinction as to what IB is not.

It is not a replacement for Ethernet or any other local or long haul protocol. It is designed as a replacement for the limiting PCI/PCI-X Bus Architecture in Servers. Think of it as a Device Protocol, something like a super-scalar USB for Servers.

Automated Manufacturing processes can wean themselves from expensive mainframes with clustered IB servers and put intelligence into the remote robotic controllers, so this is only one of the many huge markets for IB based servers and devices.

Sorry if there was any confusion generated on my part.
