eMachines Kicks off New Year with Seven New PCs Offering Consumers Tremendous Power at Affordable Pricing

eMachines Achieves Unprecedented Year-Over-Year Processor and Feature Upgrades at Low End - Ships 2 Millionth Computer

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- eMachines, Inc., the third largest vendor of desktop retail PCs, today announced its new Q1 2000 product line of eTower and eMonster computers.

In addition to achieving a record shipment level of more than 600,000 computers in Q4 1999, and recently passing its 2 millionth PC shipped since inception milestone, eMachines has demonstrated dramatic year-over-year technology and performance upgrades while maintaining its original $399, $499 and $599 entry-level PC pricing. Compared to eMachines' eTower products a year ago, the company now offers consumers a more than 50 percent increase in processing power, two to three times more hard drive capacity, faster CD and DVD-ROMs, and higher performance graphics. (See eMachines' year-over-year performance statistics below.)

"The incredible increase in the pace of CPU and hard drive technology advances has made low-cost computers amazingly powerful -- to the point of being able to solve all but a small portion of consumer and office application requirements," stated Stephen A. Dukker, President and CEO of eMachines, Inc. "These clock speeds and hard drive capacities, available in our sub-$600 systems today, compare with those found in last year's models from other suppliers at over $1,500! Today's low-cost system buyer gets power exceeding that of the high-end systems available less than 12 months ago at an investment of under 1/3 the cost. Truly, we are seeing a redefinition of the 'mainstream' in mass market computing."
