07:42 ET S&P Changes : The following changes will be made in the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400 and S&P; SmallCap 600 Indices: Biogen (BGEN) and Harley-Davidson (HDI) will replace Foster Wheeler (FWC) and Fleetwood Enterprises (FLE) in the S&P 500 Index after the close Friday, Jan 28; TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) and Sybase (SYBS) will replace BGEN and HDI in the S&P MidCap 400; FWC and FLE will replace USA Detergents (USAD) and NCS Healthcare (NCSS) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index; also Audiovox Cl. 'A' (VOXX) will replace OAK (being acquired by GLW) in the S&P SmallCap 600 after close on Jan 28 and Mercury Computer (MRCY) will replace WJ (acquired by Fox Paine Capital Fund) in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the close on Monday, Jan 31.

Basic premise - index funds need to add the tickers going into indices (therefore price rises), and sell the ones leaving (price falls). If it's a wash (leaving one index, entering another), then price fluction should be minor. In general, prices will return to where they were before the change within 2 weeks to a month.
