Perhaps it is even more base. Liberals don't like to categorize good and evil. They prefer to blur the line and argue rationale for evil acts. Conservatives are more resolute in defining evil. When there is a chance that a conservative has done something "evil", the press which is liberal jumps on it. When a liberal does something "evil", it's OK because it's not hypocritical.
