Lurqer, I suggest you give your favorite independent insurance agent a call and ask for info on any of his companies providing "high deductible MSA policies".

The premiums are less than 1/2 of private insurance. Deductible levels are very high per year (>$4200/year/family), but 100% coverage after that. You can put pretax dollars (>$3700/year/family) into an MSA that can be used for all medical related expenses, such as dental, medical, optical, etc. And the MSA can grow year over year and be there when you need it any time in life. (Not like a Personal Spending Account which expires at the end of each year.)

They have a very big PPO network with negotiated prices. You can go out of network as well.

It looks like an excellent way to protect your family from catastrophic medical expenses and build up a Medical Savings Account with pre tax dollars, which amount to the annual premium savings over standard policies, pretty much.

I am going with Unicare here in GA.
