PacketVideo Provides NTT DoCoMo With Software for
Interoperability Testing of 2-Way Audio-Visual Communications Over
Broadband Wireless Networks

SAN DIEGO, Jan 25, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PacketVideo, the global leader in wireless
multimedia communication software and services for mobile applications, today announced it
will be providing NTT DoCoMo, the world's largest wireless operator and the leader in
deployment of broadband 3G (3rd Generation) digital mobile networks, with a software test
bench that verifies the newly developed 3G-324M standard and interoperability between
various mobile terminals.

The software test bench enables NTT DoCoMo to verify compliance with the newly developed
3G-324M standard. This standard is dedicated to the 2-way communication of real-time video
and audio over 3G mobile networks. Interoperability will be confirmed by the physical
connection of prototype terminals from different companies, allowing the completion of video
phone calls over a simulated error-prone channel.

The testing will be conducted as part of NTT DoCoMo's ongoing effort to ensure
interoperability among companies seeking to meet 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership
Project) specifications for subscriber equipment, network infrastructure, and wireless
multimedia applications such as those pioneered by PacketVideo in time for NTT DoCoMo's
planned launch of its Wideband CDMA networks in Japan in early 2001.

"We are very pleased with the contribution PacketVideo's engineering team has made in
delivering a bi-directional audio-visual communication software test bench," said Dr. Hirotaka
Nakano, Head of Multimedia Laboratories, NTT DoCoMo. "We expect this jointly developed
software not only to validate 3GPP's specifications, but also to deliver a platform for testing
visual communication interoperability over Wideband CDMA networks."

PacketVideo's president and chief technology officer, Dr. James Brailean, who spearheaded
the MPEG-4 standards development related to wireless multimedia transmission prior to
founding PacketVideo, saluted NTT DoCoMo's leadership and noted, "PacketVideo is very
pleased to have been selected by DoCoMo to participate in the 3GPP process and help
shape these important upcoming interoperability tests. Our joint development with DoCoMo
will enable both parties to resolve a number of technical issues that will pave the way for
timely introduction of wireless multimedia services in the increasingly robust digital cellular
networks being deployed around the world."

About NTT DoCoMo NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc. (NTT DoCoMo), Japan's
largest mobile communications operator, took over in July 1992 the mobile communications
operations and sales of NTT, Japan's largest telecommunications company (recently
reorganized). It provides a comprehensive range of wireless services including cellular
telephone, paging, satellite mobile communications, maritime and in-flight telephone, and
more. These services are supplied nationwide by nine regional subsidiaries, and the
company also has subsidiaries in Palo Alto (NTT DoCoMo USA, Inc.), Paris (DoCoMo
Europe S.A.) and Brazil (NTT DoCoMo Telecommunicacoes do Brasil Limitada).

NTT DoCoMo had more than 28.4 million mobile phone subscribers as of November 1999,
including users of Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) and Personal Handyphone System (PHS)
mobile phones. Consolidated sales amounted to 3.1 trillion Yen (US$ 27 billion) in fiscal
1998 (ended March 1999). NTT DoCoMo expects to introduce a third-generation mobile
communications system based on its Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) system in the spring of
2001. The company was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October 1998. To learn
