London--Jan 25--Analysts and traders were seeing the result of the fourth UK
Bank of England 25-tonne gold auction (Story .14161) as neutral to slightly
bullish. Many were waiting for confirmation of the buyers and hoping that the
majority were not producers, explaining that the higher the level of miners'

UK's BOE allots all auctioned gold at $289.50/oz
London--Jan 25--The Bank of England announced today that it sold 804,400
ounces of UK Treasury auctioned gold at US $289.50 per ounce. The Bank received
bids for 3,451,200 ounces of gold but allotted only the expected 804,400 ounces,

Hong Kong--Jan--25--China has issued export quotas for 280 tonnes of silver

day. China Banknote Printing received an export quota of 80 tonnes of silver,

Pa. investment adviser pleads guilty to fraud
NEW YORK, Jan 25 (Reuters) - John Gardner Black, an adviser to local governments and school districts across western Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to fraud in what prosecutors said was one of the largest investment scandals in state history.

The case, which resulted in losses of more than $61 million for Black's clients -- mostly small local school districts -- created a furor when the extent of the damage was discovered in 1997.
