Ten, Why isn't Mr. Gwennap judging Athlon on the same standard as he is judging Itanium's potential
performance?

He likes to root for the underdog? I was pulling for Tampa Bay on Sunday. Have to admit the Rams uniform still reminds me of LA.

I guess I got the gist of your post wrong. I thought you were saying Gwennap was underestimating Itanium's performance. Instead, sounds like you were saying that 30% over Alpha is nothing to sneeze at. Maybe there are NDA's between Intel and the server companies evaluating Itanium until Intel gets the Megahertz up? Haven't seen a thing (I know it's not released).

Linley Gwennap and Michael Slater work for Microprocessor Design Reports (MDR). The purpose of the organization is to provide users of designs with reviews. If, every time they did a test, all they had to say is, "buy Intel", there wouldn't be much reason to pay $2,000-$4000 a year for the advice. It would seem the natural bias would be to find fault with the leader. Other than that they seem pretty informed and knowledgeable, at least to finance/business oriented guys who aren't technical, such as myself.
