NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- International Business Machines Corp., continuing the push to provide faster and more powerful technology, Tuesday unveiled high-powered workstations which support the UNIX and Windows NT systems. At the lower end is IBM's (IBM) IntelliStation Z Pro, which is designed to deal with tasks such as automobile crash simulations, stress failure analysis and nonlinear video editing. It costs from $3,999 without the monitor. Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM also plans to improve its IntelliStation M Pro and discount IntelliStation E Pro by adding new capabilities, including Intel Corp.'s (INTC) Pentium processors at up to 800 megahertz. The company also unveiled its RS/6000 44P models 170 and 270, designed for mechanical and electrical engineering design and analysis. Both are based on 64-bit technology and have copper-based microprocessors. The use of copper enables faster performance than aluminum-based technology. Model 170, priced between $10,495 and $15,495, serves as a uniprocessor system, while model 270, priced between $16,995 and $35,995, acts as a one-way to four-way workstation, IBM said.
