>>It is equally
remarkable that observers such as yourself find our responses so objectionable
but never remark about the incredibly bad language and behind the scenes power
plays that we see elsewhere.<<

I am very sorry to hear about that. I don't remark about it because I'm not privy to it. But even if I were, I should think that objectionable "behind the scenes power plays" should be kept off the thread, don't you agree?

I have no disagreement with you as to the responsibility of the participants to do their best to stay within the framework of GG investing and the terminology, either. But as you say, it is necessary to come to an agreement on terms and I think it is just more conducive to productive discourse to ask new participants what their understanding of GG terminology is, if there appears to be a deviation from the generally accepted definitions.

I'm glad that you and I can agree that no one here has a lock on GGaming (including apparently Geoff Moore himself!) and quite sincerely, I really don't believe it is anyone's intent to imply such. I'm simply cautioning against the potential appearance of such an attitude.

The idea of a "Round Table" replete with special names for the members conveys "clubbiness" (my word)....It's just my opinion. I like the idea of roundtable (as in discussion) but not "The Round Table" as in 14th Century Kings and Knights. Again, just a perception.

Happy to hear about the handshake, though....

OT/Roundtable

DS,

You, of all members of the Roundtable, should not be challenged to defend yourself as being "clubby".

I first started lurking this thread around Thanksgiving, when there was a discussion occurring in the face of a challenge that this thread had a "Cliquiness" to it, especially felt by women.

Since that time I have felt the cold shoulder treatment, but never from you. You have been most gracious and responsive on both this thread and others, publicly and privately. Your inclination to respond to all posts directed to you, or your subject is admirable and a good model for others to follow.

The reading of your responses to LoF only enhanced my opinion of you in this regard.

I think that the Roundtable should appoint you as chair of the Subcommittee for Public Relations, and attend to your lead closely.

Marc

Informed disagreement is welcomed here.

I'd like to add that uninformed disagreement is also welcomed if it is polite disagreement. Agreement and disagreement come in three forms:

1) We think we're informed.
2) We think we're uninformed and look to become informed.
3) We thought we were informed until further information and discussion caused us to change our mind about that.

In the end, the issue of being relatively informed or uninformed is unimportant. Being open-minded is very important.

<<(BTW, we don't have a secret handshake.)>>

Actually, DS, we do, but it's just for those sitting above the salt...sorry...
