Elizabeth Heller Allen Named Vice President of Dell Corporate Communications
----------------------------------------------------
Round Rock, Texas, January 24, 2000

Elizabeth Heller Allen has joined Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) as the company's vice president of corporate communications, effective today. Ms. Allen reports to Kevin Rollins, Dell vice chairman, and is responsible for the strategic direction and global management of Dell's corporate communications function.

Ms. Allen, 46, was vice president, corporate communications, at Staples Inc., a leading global retailer of office supplies, furniture and technology to consumers and businesses through more than 1,000 stores and the staples.com e-commerce site. Her responsibilities at Staples spanned investor, government, community and media relations, and included senior communications support of sports-marketing projects, store openings and new-market entries, and vendor and employee events.

Prior to Staples, Ms. Allen was vice president, corporate communications, at Raytheon Co., a diversified technology conglomerate with a strong defense and aviation business. During her more than 20-year communications career, she was also vice president, corporate communications, at Loral Corp., a defense contractor and space communications company, and vice president, marketing communications, at Citicorp.

"Elizabeth is a very strong addition to our global management team," said Mr. Rollins. "Her communications experiences are wide ranging and her accomplishments many. She understands how a powerful, well-positioned brand can drive superior growth and profitability over time."

Ms. Allen holds a bachelor's degree in editorial journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, where she was subsequently inducted into the school's hall of achievement, and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University.

Mr. Owen joined Dell in 1992
I would venture to guess he got some options a year after joining (1993) they would have vested over 5 years (1998-1999). It's not surprising that he wants a change and new challenge. I don't know about replacements, but they didn't decide to shut down the web site when he left.
TP :-)
