....Nortel's earnings were calculated using Canadian accounting rules. Using U.S. rules, the fourth-quarter earnings from operations of 44 cents a share were only moderately ahead of expectations of 41 cents a share, according to a separate survey by First Call/Thomson Financial based on U.S. accounting rules. Nortel said it will focus on results using U.S. accounting rules for 2000 and after....

Whoops! According to DowJones and confirmed by Bloomberg, NT just lost another penny of "earnings":

...."We're on a great trajectory," said Roth in a CNBC interview Wednesday on the heels of the communications company's Tuesday announcement of 43 cents a share fourth-quarter earnings, compared to analyst consensus estimates of 41 cents a share. Nortel's revenues rose 21% to $7 billion for the period....

LOL. That is some trajectory all right, from 55 to 43 in a matter of hours. At this rate, by tomorrow NT will be showing a loss.
