"A guy that I only know through this thread has me upside down with a flashlight looking a my surge protector for a number that has no meaning to me" man, i knew there was something about you that i liked! <g3> thanks for making my day, doug. i needed that laugh, i'll tell ya. since posting, i called APC tech support and asked them. the guy was very interested in the pcworld article (that cites UL1447). while we spoke, i emailed the url to him and he received it in seconds and loaded up the page. he didn't know what to make of the bit about UL1447 and speculated that either his 1449 was an advanced approval, the 1447 was a new one, or the 1447 was a typo. but he promised to get to the bottom of it and email me back. i'll tell him you and your flashlight are on it, too. :) mark
