MOT confirmed to be buying Qcom chips. KYO was buying chips before the handset deal. Carriers are demanding chip capabilities not merely because of data capacity but also because it increases their capacity for voice. Irwin: "No Brainer" handset makers have to have qcom chips; paine webber report confirmed.

HDR schedule: trial chips 3rd quarter; mid 2001 1xrtt chips in production. Co. refuses to announce who has committed to buy the chips. {Sounds to me like NOK has bitten.}

qcom down to 138+ in aftermarket.

All Korean exported phones have Qcom chips in them.

European move: 1x more efficient than European competitor. There is a lot of operator interest in Europe.

95B only launched in Japan and Korea. Most in Japan because of the competitive situation. Operators here focusing on earliest possible move to 1x; targets mid calendar year. Some impact 1x Q4; then growing very rapidly.

Q: Moving european 450mhz to CDMA? Q thinks CDMA offers advantages since limited bandwidth at 450 & CDMA being the most efficient w.r.t bandwith. Next step is to prove out 450, them commercial application.

Oops...they just answered my question as to what pro-forma earnings mean. This is the number (27c) to use going forward.

Negotiations with China not done yet...."terribly dissapointed" if not done in 1st half of year.
