NTAP new product feature

NTAP announced a new version of WebCache that is only available in a filer bundle (appliance) that seems very important. Its a "streaming appliance" supporting all 4 streaming protocols.

Vertical Markets

Greetings, I'm trying to finish up my research on a company for Project Hunt. I'm trying to classify where this company fits in and would appreciate some feedback on the definition of vertical markets contained in the FM. This company is in the same opto-electronic industry as JDSU, although it's one step closer to the customer. In other words, they buy pumps and lasers from JDSU, integrate these in with their own equipment and software, and then sell the finished product to multiple system operators (MSOs) and others in order to expand the bandwidth available on cable, satellite, and wireless networks.

According to the manual (I'm working from the original, not the revised), vertical system markets "refer to technology-enabled offerings that are devoted to a single market" (p. 121). The manual concludes this is not the province of gorillas.

I've already concluded this company is not in a gorilla game, mainly because there's no IPR. So, where to put it won't affect this ultimate conclusion. I'm just trying to put it in the right category - is it (and therefore, JDSU) in a vertical market, or is it in the enabling hardware part of the Computer Systems market?

I'd appreciate feedback from group. TIA.

Eric
