Actually your hint at focussing on the modem proved helpful. I thought the solution was by searching in win98 cd-rom or something. But indeed, I changed the slot for the modem and when I rebooted and the PCI controller thingie came up it accepted the modem drivers. TADA! Thanks alot for your suggestion and the others too. :-) Olga, Toronto (feel so much better...nothing worse then feeling stuck with a bloody machine)
