El-- I will not release my lockup until Mar 15. I want my suppliers to prove they are OK with this UNUSUAL leap year,,, MSFT, one of my holdings, expects Win2000 to get off to "a slow start this qtr"... CPQ always has its slowest qtr this time of year,,,

MSFT has advised that the ramp up for Win 2000 will be "slow". This is a pretty big deal, MS NT is going to replace UNIX in the corporate environment. There are (my guess) perhaps 30-100 Million Unix installations and intel has projected that the market will grow by 100's of millions a year (yea, I know it sounds unbelievable to me too).

MS does not want to screw this up. Couple that with the "official" release date is not until half the quarter is gone, couple that with rampup (remember Q, unlike others will not JUST be selling boxes, but solutions) couple that with the entrenched UNIX base and mindset, it may take some time to make sure the start up goes correctly.

Weisbach from Unisys gave the same exact guidance. (BTW his stock dropped like a rock, but has just begun to recover)

Officially the Y2K freeze does not end until after a company is certain nothing will go wrong. I think MSFT believes this date to be February 15th, 2000.

And by the way "15%" is a magic figure. It is the figure used again and again by any company which does not wish to exaggerate the expectations of its investors. It is always nicer to surprise on the upside.

Forget about what Capellas said. He is a transition CEO and will disappear one year later.
