milo - <I can only call it like I see it.>

Office Depot has never been one to sell high end PXXX's.

You might want to try either CompUSA or Fry's, unless you only want to see what you want to see.

Tench...
Give it a break.......0.18 um transition is not a big deal for a fab already running advanced 0.25 um technology.

If my understanding and knowledge is right, there were no new process module introduction for the fab in question to transition into 0.18um.

But that has not been the case for Intel. There 0.25 um technology had many of the 0.35 technology process modules. Thus 0.18 um technolgy has introduced many new modules and thus many of the initial ramp up issue but the initial issues are clearly behind Intel now.

Atleast from yield basis (good die/wafer), I believe both companies are possibly at equal footing. Regarding the speedbin, I believe Athlon is no K6 but I don't know how far P3 would last but It has lasted very long & it still continue to have legs.

Anyway competition is good & AMD-Intel Mhz race is absolutely unique in semiconductor industry and even in competitive capitalism.

We are clearly witnessing history. Both companies deserve our awe and respect. Making 25M transistor uP running at 800Mhz and constant tweaking to get higher Mhz is just incredibly difficult and there would be hits & misses.

Lets for the moment appreciate that both companies are doing absolute miracles.

Regards,

HB

Milo, <And the Last time I was at the Wilsonville Fry's I didn't see the HP 800Mhz Piii.>

Whoops, I forgot that you're a fellow Oregonian. I saw the HP system in the back corner near the monitors and video cards. But I guess a lot can change over the course of a week.
