There may be some disappointment in WS that forward guidance was conservative. But not all investors were as optimistic as some on here - so the disappointment may not be as pronounced as it appears to be here. All the talk of disappointing revenues seems to be contrived - based on initial headlines and superficial year-on-year comparisons.

I cannot see any analyst downgrading tomorrow. I can see most reiterating their current stance. There may be a few who might upgrade incrementally if they have a neutral or on accumulate on it now. They may hold off giving an opinion until next week after the analysts meeting.

I cannot see large institutions selling off - there is no reason. It is still a safe value play with at least 15% growth - better than most. Some of them may want to get in lower and may hold off in expectation of it pulling back to the bottom of the $27-$32 trading range in a down market. Tomorrow or the next few days might present a good short term trading opportunity.

The initial pressure on the stock price will be from momentum traders who bought on the hype expecting $35/37/40 soon. But what percentage of the float do they own?

The secondary pressure will be market fears of a Fed rate hike. COMPAQ will not be immune from that on the basis of these results.
