Yes, I believe they can use a plastic package with flip chip, but standard socket 370 requires a ceramic package. Perhaps there's be a thermal problem with the 550 FCPGA's. This is the only reasonable explanation for 500 FCPGA being OK, but 550 NOT OK.

I wonder how many PC's have been sold with the bad parts, seeing as these parts are already penetrated into the SD shop market as represented by thechipmerchant.com.
