Akami's caching is a bit different than others. They do not cache dynamic content, only fixed content. So they may cache a logo, a graphic, a long running add. They do not cache news, e-mail, databases, etc.

Akami needs a dynamic cache engine, like Net Cache.

Akami and NTAP have worked together to design an Open Proprietary Architecture so that their two products can work together.

NTAP's Net Cache can run on UNIX or NT. There is also a version that runs on filers, making the solution an appliance. It is the appliance version of Net Cache that supports streaming. Streaming requires responsive hardware to support the throughput. NTAP is getting that responsive hardware not through sheer horsepower, but the appliance, single purpose approach.
