Samual - <No doubt IA-64 cannot fail. I posted it because I found the analogy to the i860 interesting.> Although the author seems to think that technically the architectures are similar, the underlying circumstances surrounding the respective product offerings are totally different situations, in my mind. E.g., as the author states, there is already a broad base of support for Merced, versus the i860, which was sort of a surprise offering, with very little infrastructure in place before the product was introduced.
