Lions Gate produces Q3 profit despite Mandalay loss
VANCOUVER, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Canadian film producer and distributor Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (AMEX:LGF - news) (Toronto:LGF.TO - news) said on Tuesday it had a third quarter profit, although it was dragged down by a non-cash loss at Mandalay Pictures.

Lions Gate said it had earnings of nearly C$3 million ($2.07 Million), 10 Canadian cents per share, in third quarter, compared to a loss of C$600,000, three Canadian cents per share, in the same period the year before.

Lions Gates said without its equity pickup of its loss in Mandalay Pictures, its earnings in the quarter would have been C$4.4 million, 14 Canadian cents per share.

``This is by far the most profitable quarter in the company's history, and obviously our management team is excited by the positive results,' chief executive Frank Giustra said in a written statement.

The company said revenues in the third quarter from its motion picture operations increased more than 150 percent to C$55.3 million for the same period last year due largely to the theatrical release of the controversial film Dogma.

Mandalay Pictures had a non-cash equity interest loss in quarter of C$1.4 million.
