Earlie, The only one of these geek organizations that even tries to print the truth any more is PC Data, and maybe Forester, though they are more into forecasting than bean counting. I remember in the early 80s, as a buyside analyst, DQ was one of my most trusted Street sources. Then they split the brokerage side from the research side, and later Gartner got into the mix, and the research has never been the same. Usually one thinks of the brokerage side corrupting the research practices, but I think the brokers had a need for accuracy while the research has a need for subscriptions.

Just about the only reason to read DQ and IDC now, other than for the pratfalls and other zany bits, is to see what they are going to say that the permabulls can use as ammunition.

I have no doubt whatsoever that pc revenues were down last year, though I do have some doubts that we will ever hear about that fact in the media.

Guys like you and Fred just don't have a bully enough pulpit. <g>
