The processor should be plenty fast to play the DVD using software, but if the patches don't fix the problem, then your solution may be the only way out. I have yet to try out the DVD player on my new PC which uses a software solution, I guess I should. I'm waiting for the ATI VideoWonder card which has an onboard DVD decoder chip, but that card won't ship till March.

I'm with you, DIVIT. I posted on this thread on Dec 30th (#48075) about Apple's difficulty with software DVD decode, and not many seemed to notice. I'm glad I'm not the only one cheesed off. Yes, Apple should be giving out hardware fixes to the problem, and should ABANDON this silly software solution. The hardware solution (ala ZIVA) worked just fine! Why change, to save a few measley bucks? Apple is enjoying huge success with their recent comeback over the last year. Why destroy that momentum by putting out POS machines that can't even play a DVD!?!?!?! For a couple bucks, they could have Ziva once again! I plan on buying a new G4 soon, but I REFUSE to do so until Apple returns to hardware decode (ie, Ziva). JMHO Tim

You're right DiVit -- Apple positions itself as a multimedia company and they should provide the HW fix. It is no fun to "read my lips" when watching a DVD!
