Dog,

The market is not currently rational. There is FUD around the FED. There is FUD around DELL making Q4 targets.

The CPQ numbers show potential for upside surprise but the channel as always obscures the real sales to the end users.
So it is hard to translate the CPQ growth rates into DELL growths rates.

DELL is working very hard to ship units and close sales this month. I should get my 840 Workstation before the end of the month. The analysts think that there might be a continuing margin squeeze hangover from Q3 because it is difficult for DELL to renegotiate its commercial contracts even though they may have a cost adjustment clause in them.

I believe that the increasing availability of parts and the drop in memory costs, etc along with a rise in the average ASP for SOHO and consumer customers will be sufficient to restore the margins to normal on the hardware products.
Certainly, CPQ's numbers and GTW's numbers indicate that this is the case.

I think it is possible that DELL will actually exceed forecasts due to the extremely strong January sales.

Regards,

J Kelley
