"Diffuse this quarter"...I mean that MD should (attempt at least) to shift the rabid focus on this quarter, and get the investment community to focus on the prospects for the remainder of the year.......instead of waiting another 3 weeks to start the effort.......The investment community has, of late, become quite myoptic on Dell lately...and IMO, it is management's responsibility to "put up a good fight" and defend the stock (WHEN/IF, I emphasize) misconceptions abound.. Right now, investors see Sun Micro....and they think "Internet"...they see Dell...and they think "maturing PC biz"...part of this problem is PR, IMO....Sun Micro's management has simply done a better job of getting its message across...even though Sun's projected future growth rate in very similar to Dell's (and current P/E is almost twice)....I can't believe that Sun Micro's prospects are that much better than Dell's...(I'm ready to get flamed by Sun devotees).... BTW- Another example....IBM's stock should have got pounded because of their horrible quarter....instead, they go out and blame Y2K for sales shortfalls (instead of just admitting they got their a$$ handed to them in hardware (Dell), servers (Sun), and storage (EMC)..NONE of these other companies have had/expect to have any (sales) problems due to Y2K.....Why does Lou Gerstner get away with such PR spin? Why is the stock not getting hit? Because he has credibility to burn, I suppose....and because of this successful PR, the stock is hanging higher (while Lou works, like the wizard in the wizard of OZ, his gears to get IBM back on track....)...Six months from now, he may indeed get IBM on track, and the stock may never take the hit it (deserved) and Lou will have gotten away with one... Dell's stock (as of late) doesn't seem to get away with anything... Agree fully, that, going forward, should be as bullish as possible BUT with easily acheivable growth targets....avoid at all costs guessing game (will they make quarter?)
