Actually, Reddy is a caste and for many it is customary to have it in their name. No last name system in some parts of India. So, many chose to use Reddy as their last name instead of their surname.

I was told that the situation was handled very poorly by INS. Can you imagine being in a situation like that with proper paperwork? Humiliating is not the right word. Also, notice the timing of this raid - after the Y2K. I bet there are many planned like that. A lot of Indian programmers were hired for Y2K projects. I know very well that certain firms do cheat on paper work. So does INS. But they let it go till now. Now that the need is over, they are raiding! Shame!
