i think of any one complete strategy as one trade (short straddle, buy-stock-write-straddle, NP, etc.). Once you alter the makeup of the original strategy for the purpose of further gain, you are changing your strategy. or it is a new trade.
in my view, 'repairing' a short straddle is done to maintain the profit in the original straddle (or at least maintain breakeven).

we're probably saying the same thing, but just using different terminology.
