hello George, i do wish you would tell me your source for the statement that the optics nortel uses for OC-192 are purchased from lucent microelectronics.
does nortel also manufacture its own optics for OC-192? when you write "the optics for ..." i read that as all those optical components needed for OC-192 are purchased by nortel from lucent's division. is that what you meant?
or did you mean the much more general statement that, as to lu, nt, cien and pirelli, ala, and some smaller network builders; they all purchase this or that from each other and from such as jdsu, etek, sdli and some smaller component manufacturers?
in your response 13037 you write "These are just components". do you mean that nortel buys all its components from lucent's division?
and again, how do you figure lucent as an investment if it is led by a man like Mr. McGinn. he either knew, or should have known, to the last jot and tittle that nortel was doing (because - if you are correct - nortel buys all its components from Mr. McGinn's subsidiary) - and sits there and lets them take 90% of the biggest market of the future.
if you were the head of wcom or gblx or qwst or mfnx or lvlt, and you needed a fiber optic network FAST and dependable, who would you go to? the guy that just built 28 OC-192 networks, or the guy who's just ramping up? the guy who just went through every kind of surprise, disappointment, shock, dumb errors that come up when you're building anything big - and who SOLVED them all - because they're all up and running - and built 28 of them. or would you go with a guy who's just starting. remember, you want it NOW and dependable, and you have billions riding on it.
btw, does nortel sell components to lucent - or do they only buy because all their optics come from lucent?
