I'll believe what Kash noted re Mikey's talk. What is your problem? AMD has a multiferous (made that up) quarter and they are still 23% off their all time high? Too many years of disappointment in that company to be made up in one quarter. Can't you figure that out?

I hear there's what someone called AMD pollution over on the Dell thread. Check it out.

Could this have been what he meant by "more expensive chips"?

Cirruslvr: but said they substituted in more expensive chips when they could get them.". More expensive chips would have to indicate RAM as INTC is always slightly more expensive than AMD although that might be different with spot orders but that is the only place you could hang your argument. As I remember DELL had previously reported that they had a problem with memory as a result of the fact that 1. They don't inventory 2. The Taiwanese earthquake and the fact that MU was getting their price on allotment.

Dell: Bad News May Ripple Through Techs
As if the tech sector wasn't nervous enough, Dell Computer (Nasdaq:DELL - news) announced some news after the close on Monday that has the potential to ripple through a number of PC-related industries. Dell announced that memory prices are up more than expected, which will likely hurt its third quarter profit margins. The company called this memory pricing issue "short term" but it is taking action such as offering systems with lower base memory to reduce overall consumption of memory.

I see no contradiction in what the order taker said on the phone and the CFO's comment. The CFO said semiconductors the order taker refined it to RAM.
