Its not even so much that people are lazy (which of course they are), its simply that they don't know what to be looking for. They want somebody to find "stuff" to show them that they did not know existed.

I didn't know I wanted to see Hubble pictures until Solid posted that link and I never would have clicked on it if I still had my old dialup instead of @Home. Who needs to be tortured. I'm not lazy, but I'm like most Americans, I'm prone to impulses. Retailers have been taking advantage of this propensity for years. This is where your aggregator comes in, sometimes I don't know what I'm interested in until I see it.

This thread acts as an aggregator to those interested in ATHM. I know if an interesting article pertaining to this stock shows up out there, sooner or later a link shows up here. When there is nothing of interest about ATHM on the thread, I'm then forced to go look out there. When I find something I feel obligated to post it here because I've benefited so much from others posting.

The bigger the web gets the more important it is to have places where you can be guaranteed to see something you will be interested in. Communities like SI are the perfect place for narrow interests, but the portals/search engines work better for general interests. I think both will be successful.
