Buckwheat - <So maybe the shortages (or yield problems) aren't just at the high mhz levels.>

There is no yield problem with the lower end .25um parts. There is a supply contraint problem though.

RE:"We would be remise if we did not also point out the Gateway (and maybe others) complained about not getting enough processors at the 500mhz level. If you look at 500 mhz processor prices you will see that prices (retail) have trended up over the past two months. So maybe the shortages (or yield problems) aren't just at the high mhz levels"...

So when Intel saw that floppermine was going to have a rough launch they decided to go ahead and eliminate the P-III-450 and not downbin
extra higher speed chips to 500...all for the sake of saving the QTRs ASPs.
Too bad for Gateway.
Intel led Dell and Gateway down the path of diminishing Rambo and the high end blew up in their face.
Dell and Gateway ain't happy...

Buckwheat, As Jim says there are no happy faces at Dell and GTW where Intel is concerned. I bet Dell is quietly developing a second source of supply.
Treu, there is an all round shortage, but worst at high speeds.
