cannibalization is the reaction the street had when Schwab did it. Didn't the market cap become diminished by 33% when they first announced their online division would compete with their traditional?

but as it turns out Schwab did make the right move. I'll have to admit Merrill is a little late. Etrade was Johnny on the Spot and did terrific. But its in a David and Goliath scenario now with the biggies adopting available technology also.
