February 3, 2000 Trading Symbol: CWY (CDNX) MEDIA RELEASE Commonwealth Encounters Hydrocarbons in 3 Zones& Commonwealth Energy Corp. ("the Company") is pleased to announce that the drilling of the Warren/Thurmond #2 well on the Company's 2,600 acre Camp Colorado Prospect in Texas has been completed. The Company completed an electric log analysis yesterday and casing has now been set in the well to the depth of 2,921 feet. The electric log indicates hydrocarbon presence in three zones. From deepest to shallowest, the Duffer Formation, the Marble Falls Formation, and the Caddo Limestone Formation. The next step is to test the well beginning with the deepest zone. Therefore testing will begin in the Duffer Formation. Further announcements will be made once testing has been completed.
