Cole Computer Announces GSA Contract To Sell Computer systems to Federal Government

(slightly old news, but haven't seen it here yet)

OKLAHOMA CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2000--

Cole becomes one of first OEMs to offer AMD Athlon(TM) processor-based systems on GSA schedule

Cole Computer Corporation (OTCBB:COLV), an Oklahoma City-based manufacturer of personal computers, announced Monday that the Government Services Administration (GSA) has awarded it a Federal Supply Schedule for computer systems. With this announcement, Cole Computer becomes one of the first in the nation to offer AMD Athlon processor-based systems on the GSA schedule.

The GSA, the government agency that sets procurement policy for the federal government, has awarded Cole Computer Corporation a five-year contract to sell computers, including systems based on the seventh generation Advanced Micro Devices AMD Athlon(TM) processor, to federal agencies across the nation.
The GSA awards contracts for goods and services to qualified vendors based upon a negotiated price structure, among many other factors. This contract informs government agencies searching for parts and services that the GSA has set a fair price and ensured certain business factors. This eliminates many of the troubles associated with the bidding process and makes purchasing from Cole Computer Corporation much easier for any local, state or federal government agency.

"The GSA contract marks another proud moment in Cole Computer history," said Brad Cole, Cole Computer's chairman and chief executive officer. "This fits right into place with our business plan."

"We are excited that Cole Computer's GSA contract provides another opportunity for our award-winning AMD Athlon processor to power federal government computer systems," said Lee Little, AMD's director of field marketing for the Americas.

Cole Computer Corporation manufactures and sells -- both wholesale and retail -- "Ready-to-Go" and custom personal computers. Each system is manufactured with quality components and given the Cole Computer personal touch. Additionally, the company sells components to repair, upgrade or build complete personal computers. For more information on these goods and services, visit the Cole Computer e-commerce Web site at okcmasters.com, the Cole Computer home page at colecomputercorp.com or one of the company's 11 retail outlets operating in Oklahoma and Texas under the trade name, "Computer Masters."

Tench, re:<<Intel has 14 fabs online. How come only 5 are making microprocessors>>

Thanks for your answer:

Those five are 0.18u fabs. I'm sure there are still several 0.25u fabs churning out Katmai (Pentium III), Tanner (Pentium III Xeon), and Mendocino (Celeron) CPUs.

Also, I work right next to two fabs here in Oregon which is making 0.18u flash products, and those are in addition to the five (or so) 0.18u fabs making processors. Previously, one of those two fabs was making 0.35u products, from Klamath (classic Pentium II) to 450NX (4-way Xeon chipset)...

So it sounds like about 8 of 14 are turning out CPU's, and several more are doing chipsets. Do you think Intel really needs 8 fabs churning out CPU's?

8 x 5000 wafers/wk x 13 weeks/quarter x 200 cpu/wafer x 70% yield would result in 72.8 million CPU's. This is more than double what Intel actually produced last quarter, and when everything is converted to 0.18 they should be able to get 250 cpu/wafer.

Petz

I thought PB said only four Fabs where @ .18u .
Now there is a fifth??? You also make it sound as if the fabs are 100% .18u.. What was PB talking about these fabs being 25% .18u???

Milo

So why is this happening then if we have a addition fab already?
