Convergent Communications Offers Remote LAN Access
- Local Dial Tone Access From Anywhere in the World - Virtual Private Network Capabilities
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Convergent Communications(TM), a provider of broadband IP-based business communications solutions and eBusiness services, is now offering Remote LAN Access -- a more secure and reliable service that allows small- and medium-sized business clients to have local dial tone access to their local area networks (LAN) from anywhere in the United States and the world.

``We're the only company that currently offers national remote access on a fixed monthly service rate basis,' said John R. Evans, chairman and chief executive officer of Convergent Communications. ``There is no direct competition to our service in regard to national coverage and fixed rate contracts.'

Other service providers using the public Internet typically charge an hourly usage rate based on ISP (Internet Service Provider) contracts with limited service areas or provide customer premises equipment with toll-free access.

Unlike traditional Remote Access Server (RAS) solutions, Convergent Communications' Remote LAN Access uses local phone numbers to dial into the network, making it more cost-efficient than traditional toll-free dial-in services.

Since Remote LAN Access traffic is routed over Convergent Communications' private data networks as opposed to the public Internet, clients have guaranteed bandwidth that allows them to access their LAN anywhere at anytime. Using private networks also provides enhanced security, lowering the risk of unauthorized access. Clients have the option of upgrading their security to include encrypted virtual private network (VPN) capabilities.

``Remote LAN Access allows clients to eliminate the costs associated with toll-free dial-in access as well as the expenses of operating a remote access server,' said Greg Tennant, senior vice president of product development for Convergent Communications. ``And, since we offer Remote LAN Access at a fixed monthly rate for domestic usage, clients are able to accurately budget and project their remote access costs.'

Convergent Communications Signs $1 Million eBusiness Agreement with Dallas County
Convergent Communications to Design and Install a Juvenile Information System Portal with Countywide Functionality
DALLAS, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Convergent Communications(TM), a provider of broadband IP-based business communications solutions including a full range of eBusiness services, has signed a $1 million eBusiness agreement with the county of Dallas for the design and installation of a juvenile information system portal.

Under the terms of the agreement, Convergent Communications will develop a secure Internet portal that will be integrated with the legacy systems of public schools, police departments, municipal courts, social services and some 20-30 disparate agencies within Dallas County that are responsible for keeping juvenile records.

``Convergent understood our requirements and their proposal was significantly stronger than the other bids we reviewed,' said Ron Stretcher, deputy director of administrative services for the Dallas County juvenile department. ``This solution gives us the lowest overall cost with the most flexible design.'

``Our team of eBusiness professionals is equipped with deep skill sets covering all the major programming languages, operating systems, and database platforms,' said John R. Evans, chairman and chief executive officer of Convergent Communications. ``This allows us to select the best-suited solution for our clients without a bias toward particular technologies.'

At completion, the database will be able to produce a single record on every juvenile offender in Dallas County, according to Keith V. Burge, president and chief operating officer of Convergent Communications.

``Each record will cross-reference truancy data from schools, arrest records from police departments, probation information from the courts and much more to give authorities a complete history of the juvenile,' Burge said.

Authorized users will be able to view and update information in the database in real time, enabling Dallas County to meet the requirements of Family Code 51.08 that was amended by the Texas Legislature to include use of data from different agencies to determine which court handles a juvenile's case.

About Dallas County

With more than 1.8 million citizens, Dallas County is the second most populated county in Texas and the seventh in the United States. Situated in the north-central part of Texas, the County employs a diversified workforce of 5,200 individuals, assigned to more than 100 departments and organizational units.

Trading moves today - dumped my TMBS calls and added more THQI June 30's on this weakness. Also covered EPIC short for a point, a Mr. Zone call that I didn't see anywhere else.
