India Business Briefs: eVentures To Invest In Chaitime

BOMBAY (Dow Jones)--eVentures India lead an investment of $25 million in Chaitime.com, a south Asian online community, in partnership with RAFNet Ventures, and provide strategic support to Chaitime.com. eVentures India is a joint venture between SOFTBANK CORP, a subsidiary of News Corp, and P.K. Mittal, and helps Internet ventures.

Voltas Ltd Ishaat Hussain has been appointed the new chairman of consumer goods company Voltas Ltd. (P.VLT). Husain was previously vice chairman.

SSI Ltd. (P.SXS) will get $3 million by transferring the patent rights of their securities trading products to the joint venture between its subsidiary Indigo Markets and Nasdaq, according to Press Trust of India Thursday. SSI will get a 50% stake in the joint venture. As reported, the company's board is meeting Friday to consider raising up to $100 million to fund software development centers that cater exclusively to Indigo Markets. A decision is also expected on whether the company will opt for a GDR or ADR issue, or private placement.

Cummins India Ltd. (P.CUM), a diesel engine maker, targets a revenue of INR8 billion in the current fiscal year ending Mar. 31, compared with INR6.5 billion a year ago, with the launch of its environment-friendly Power Solutions generator, according to the Press Trust of India newspaper Thursday.

Infosys Technologies Ltd. (INFY), an Indian software major, Thursday announced a strategic relationship with Aon Corp. (AOC) of the U.S. to design and develop Aon's Policy Management System and Risk Management System for global risk managers. Aon is a leading risk management and consulting organization.

Castrol India Ltd. (P.CTL), a unit of the lubricant company Burmah Castrol PLC (U.BUM), entered into strategic alliances with leading Indian automobile companies like Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co (P.TTE). and scooter-maker LML Ltd. (P.LML) to introduce customized lubricant products, Press Trust of India reports.

Pacific Internet Ltd. (PCNTF), a Singapore-based Internet service provider, Thursday officially launched its Internet access services in India. The SembCorp Industries Ltd. unit will offer a full range of services including Internet access, e-mail, Web hosting, Web design, Web consulting and e-commerce services, according to United News of India.
