RE:"So why so many AMDroids believing it will go to 60, 100, 200, etc.? Seems like a lot of things would have to line up before AMD could clearly see a few consecutive good quarters. Is Athlon alone enough?"...

People buy stocks with the hope they will go up. (Don't laugh) <G>

Consider last year, Q4, AMD made a nice profit but they were pushing the K6 core to the limit and fell flat on their face with the CXT core problem, they never had that good of yields...maybe 60% on a good day and the K6 was perceived as inferior to the Pentium-II with the more powerful FPU. On top of that they were still a speed grade or two under what Intel had to offer. On top of that Intel raised the speeds of the Celeron A while AMD couldn't deliver due to production problems.

Now, contrast that with the same time this year. <Athlon> I'd say it's pretty easy to see AMD could conceiveably string one or two more profitable quarters out. Athlons speeds, better yields, high ASPs etc. give AMD a cushion. Intel is pushing the old core this year and Willamette is realistically a year off...AMD won't really compete with iTanium. AMD looks like it has some breathing room...
Without Athlon, AMD might even be bankrupt right now.
