Sam and Thread,

Honesty check: How many times did you check SanDisk's stock price today?? Hard to turn away from the computer screen.

I expected a pop up to about 120, but it's traded as high as 140 today. Wall Street can always be counted on to overreact--up or down.

Jim

Sam, thanks for the comments. The reason I selected that particular cash item and not cash including investments was that it corresponded better to the situation in the fall of 1998. In fact, the company has always maintained a stronger cash balance, relatively speaking, than practically any other young technology company. That is a feat in itself, when you consider all the money being plowed into research, new plant and equipment, and, not least, litigation to protect its intellectual property. That cash balance says a lot about the maturity of the management and the skills it exercises in making sure that its products are top quality and competitively priced.
