As I said, I'm willing to listen to specifics, keeping in mind that hindsight quarterbacking is extremely easy. I can even provide meaningful input to Intel capacity planning if I can do it retroactively.

PB, I am suggesting a practical way to operate a business, not the actual specifics. I am saying that Intel is a big and sophisticated company.....its road map is not just about Mhz and cache on a chip.....its about how big is the market, how fast is it growing, what are world economics like, how many chips will we need to meet demand in 2002, how many fabs will that require, how much will it cost etc.

I am suggesting that Intel did not do this process well for 1999. Sure hindsight is 20/20 but again, the most successful companies hit it more times than not.....in fact it is done so seamlessly, we the consumer only notice when there is a shortage in a particular product.

And I am suggesting that the reason Intel screwed up is that it was not paying attention to its CPU business very well.
