The German people were buying bread with wheelbarrows fulls of money- the Weimar Republic had failed- the winners in WWI guaranteed the collapse of Germany (imo) and the German people would have welcomed the devil himself into Germany to save them- desperate people do desperate things, that is true of all people anywhere on the globe. Not all Germans went along but you never need the entire populace to go along- you need only a critical mass. Such a mass can develop anywhere, especially when there is great instability.
