I am speaking of the very "Heartless Bastard" who is staunchly "Objective" and acts with no feeling toward those they deem to be of lesser worth than themselves, usually they are in a position of power...

The winner of a rat race is not infrequently a rat. This is nothing new. The quintessential yuppies seem more self-indulgent than megalomanic, though, and the Nazi comparison seems more than a bit strained.

If a serious and sustained economic crash hit the US, I think the potential for dictatorship would be there. I doubt that it would come under the guise of Nazism or Communism, though; Americans in extremis are not going to adopt the ideologies of their enemies. It would more likely be marching under the stars and stripes, and preaching those good old American values. God, country, family, whether you like it or not. There are plenty of people marching in that direction already, and they would like nothing more than to force the rest of us to match the step.
