RE what is the likelihood that JDSU might, itself, be taken out by, say, LU, NT, or some other major player? Any thoughts? Yes. Not a chance. Consider why LU was spun off from AT&T. LU is a supplier of telecom equipment. As long as AT&T owned them other telecom companies did not want to buy from LU. Similarly, a takeover of JDSU by any one of the people they sell to would be very bad. If you want to own a takeover candidate, there are far better places to look.
