re: I didn't get a very comfortable feeling when he said this. Call me paranoid, but I don't particularly like the idea of my operator being allowed to monitor my exact location. If I dial 911, it's great, but not every time I use the phone.

They will have to have a switch to turn the GPS function on or off, with 911 auto turn on of the GPS function. Sounds pretty easy to do.

Kayaker,

Thank you for your notes the other day. Regarding some concern over GPS position precision mobil phone, I would guess a switch ( or a software function) on the future phone itself will do the trick for you to hide behind the curtain. :)

Best,

Brian H.

They (the men in black) can do this already via triangulation from the newtowk side.

QCOM mentioned your concern about "operator being allowed to monitor my exact location".

From Qualcomm's SnapTrack announcement PR:

"SnapTrack's unique Location on Demand(TM) feature will ensure a caller's privacy -- putting location information in the hands of the user, not the network."
