I think I'm beginning to understand, and I thank you for the post.

It is offensive to criticize anyone in a personal manner if SI admin likes them; similarly, you can't, I assume, compliment anyone personally that SI admin DOESN'T like.

So, to be sure we know what we can and can't write, what we need is a list of who SI admin likes and who they don't like. I assume this will require frequent updates.

Maybe they could do it like the spellchecker while previewing posts -- names subject to censure would be highlighted (I suggest using pinko highlighting) and we could then revise our comments to fit the SI approved tone for that person.

I believe that you are correct here also!

While I chose not to call Maria "the ferret" (in fact, I even said that she was cute in her own way), the right of others to call her that if they so choose should be indisputable and clear...
What if I wanted to call Ron Insana (Ron "the gasman" Insana), (because of his gassing at the WTO "riots" by the police), or what if I wanted to call Mr David (Ted "the tan man" David), because like George Hamilton, he likes to get tanned as often as possible? (or so it seems) Are these things excessively "mean"? I don't think so... They are indeed public figures, and as such, will tend to be the objects of strong criticism and even ridicule. Yogi
